We’re an Irish climate technology company connecting carbon removal, satellite intelligence and the people who make change happen.
Founded by Gary Byrnes and Felix Roick, Tao Climate is building a practical way for AI, technology and aviation companies to understand carbon removal opportunities and examine the evidence behind them.

Our vision
A healthier planet, with progress we can measure.
We’re building Tao Climate into a planetary health platform: a way to understand what is changing in our atmosphere and on the ground, discover solutions and track their impact.
Our ambition is to connect the global picture with the places that matter to you. From the whole Earth to a forest, a city or your own neighbourhood, we want people to explore the evidence, understand the challenges and see where action can make a difference.
We’re starting with carbon removal, satellite observation and tools that help businesses and individuals take their first steps. Over time, we aim to bring together broader evidence about climate, land and pollution, making it easier to compare environmental problems with the solutions addressing them.
Satellite imagery, science and AI help us understand change. Our purpose is to turn that understanding into measurable progress.
Our story
From aviation to a wider climate mission.
Gary and Felix came to climate technology through aviation, an industry where complex systems have to work in the real world. Gary’s experience in airline software marketing and Felix’s background in ground operations and e-commerce brought complementary perspectives: how to explain a difficult problem, and how to turn an idea into something people can use.
Tao Climate was incorporated in Ireland in November 2022. Our early focus on aviation led us deeper into carbon removal, land-based projects and a question that still guides our work: what evidence sits behind a carbon claim?
That question brought together satellite observations, project records, scientific research and software. Today, Tao Climate Platform helps people explore projects, inspect monitoring information and understand carbon scenarios. Our audience has expanded to AI and technology companies, while aviation remains an important part of our story and our future.
Co-founder and CEO
Gary Byrnes
Gary leads Tao Climate’s strategy, partnerships and product direction. He brings 20 years’ experience in technology and software marketing, alongside his work as an author and communicator.
His focus is making ambitious technology understandable and useful, connecting what businesses need with what climate science and real projects can support.
Felix brings experience in airline ground operations and e-commerce. He leads operational and commercial delivery, helping turn ideas, relationships and project information into practical progress.
His focus is the work that makes a platform useful beyond the screen: bringing people together, developing opportunities and keeping delivery moving.
Tao is much more than its two founders. We have an exceptional international team and a wider network of researchers, developers, advisers and project partners. Together, they bring expertise across software, AI, environmental science, carbon accounting, agriculture and commercial delivery.
Good climate technology depends on those connections. Field knowledge informs the data. Research challenges the assumptions. Engineering turns the results into tools people can use.
Support, programmes and recognition
Part of a much bigger effort.
We’re building Tao with the benefit of significant programme support and an international network. These relationships help us develop the technology, strengthen the business and connect with expertise.
Google. Participation in Google’s Startups for Sustainable Development programme and support through Google Cloud startup programmes.
ESA BIC Ireland. Incubation support for developing our space-enabled climate technology.
Enterprise Ireland. Early-stage business support, including the Pre-Seed Start Fund.
Startupbootcamp. Participation in its 2025 AI and Web3 programme in Amsterdam.
XPRIZE Carbon Removal. Recognition among the Top 100 teams in 2024.
Programme participation, funding support and competition recognition are distinct from certification of project removals.
How we work
Make the evidence useful.
We combine ESA Sentinel observations, Google Earth Engine, project information and AI-assisted tools. Tao Carbon Brain supports research and calculation workflows; the platform connects public project summaries with controlled access to more detailed evidence.
We make the distinctions visible: a satellite observation is not a verified tonne, a scenario is not issued inventory, and a funding concept is not an operating project. Our aim is to help buyers, developers and software agents make better-informed decisions and build towards trusted carbon removal procurement.
