Irish Biomass to SAF
A proposed research programme to test an Irish biomass-to-aviation-fuel supply chain, from feedstock to conversion.
Public overview. Partner identities, exact locations and supporting records are withheld. Potential figures are projections, not achieved or verified net removal.
From interest to evidence.

Funding concepts are proposed programmes. Land, local partners, permits, conversion facilities and offtake must be secured and validated before delivery.
Research scope and evidence
Irish biomass to SAF
From inputs
to evidence.
Inputs
Irish hemp biomass, representative existing feedstock for early trials, process water and energy. Conversion and upgrading requirements will be assessed with specialist partners.
Outputs
Measured alcohol yields and purity, conversion-compatibility evidence, energy and water requirements, and a reconciled mass balance. Aviation-fuel samples would be produced and tested where feasible with a specialist partner.
YIELDS AND ASSUMPTIONS
Pilot fuel yields have not yet been demonstrated. A separate longer-term reference case considers 8 million litres of SAF per year from a 3,500-hectare supply system. That is a design hypothesis, not an output promised by this research pilot.
SAF is an emissions-reduction pathway. Any biochar from suitable residual streams must be assessed separately for durable carbon removal, without counting the same biomass carbon twice.
